the grooves of thomas white and pete williams aka natural rhythm, have been a mainstay in the sets of robsoul boss phil weeks for more than a decade. today he pays ‘tribute’ with a special re-release of some of his favourites. born in a garage in the late 90’s, natural rhythm was a meeting of passionate musical minds. working together the pair sought to create their own style and sound, influenced by the tracks they were regularly spinning in their own dj sets across the country. creative sampling and their own raw beats, together with live instrumentation and regular guest vocalists, saw natural rhythm create a strong catalogue that, as we know, are still getting played today. with three albums and over 35 ep/single releases to their name, there more than enough music for label boss weeks to select from for the tribute ep. a tough job? of course. however, phil went straight for the four that never leave his box. leading the ep are the sun-drenched vocal vibes of ‘something big’, the title track of natural rhythm’s 1999 release on under the counter. our a2 is the lead track from 2001’s last call at the martini ranch ep, ‘chicago nights’, with its quaking bassline and disco dalliance. on the flip we’re treated to a choice selection from natural rhythm’s 1999 double album contrast in nature. first up with its celestial chimes and thumping kick is ‘smoldering island’, taken from the original part 1. closing the tribute release and taken from part 2 is the devilishly funky and suitably titled feelgood jam ‘energized’. we definitely are!

after releases on nowar, terpsichoré and cinematic, french artist the florian muller project gives parisian label escapade their second release. the four tracks span across a wide range of electronic sounds, showcasing the artists rich influences. friday afternoon opens the record with a solid house groove featuring a beautiful rhodes solo. hommage galactique pays a tribute to detroits hi-tech jazz sound pioneered by underground resistances galaxy 2 galaxy. on the b side, the forian muller project leaves out his jazz influences. the hypnotic sounds of frederique conjure up a mysterious, almost jungle-like, ambiance and low tech soul ends the record on a deep and atmospheric techno vibe.

eyetone returns with 005 which deviates away from the exploratory vibes probed in the previous release which was well received and instead shifts right back with intent for the dance floor. an ep which is very much a greek affair, featuring two deep, dubby cuts from la based greek producer maheras and a special extended techno piece by newcomer to the scene artemis soy. maheras sound spits a hybrid of sounds that range from dark techno, groovy disco and soulful house. expanding his personal style by working under new aliases with talented vocalists and collaborating in projects such as cazion and plastic love, maheras continues to explore the vast sphere of electronic music without any limits.

resopal teams up with another up and coming talent from russian federation: mark sanders from moscow will be shaking your dub bones and smashing your minds with this outstanding ep. his deep techno / dub sound has a very high recognition factor -- and it s his production values which make him stand out from the infinite number of fellow dancefloor producers.

jonny nash remix! not an animal keeps up the pace and pressure with yet another high quality distinctive release, further cementing the labels specific sound and revealing more of the scope of its musical mission. machete savane are compromised of label co owner andy bainbridge and producer/composer saul richards. manticore continues with their instantly recognisable hi octane yet organic discofied sound, as previously displayed via their releases on cynic and redux. remix wise, there s a very much night and day choice to be had here, with johnny nash (land of light) providing his trademark blissed-out ambience to a beatless rendition and ian blevins taking the original even further into dancefloor territory, upping the tempos and evoking the drive of paperclip people.

xcpt music rises from underground electronic music event series taking place in the suburbs of matera, south italy, as mature development deeply rooted and inspired by the uk 90’s scene. it kicks off with label’s manager and co-owner nothus first release, fragments of loneliness, a 12” limited press coming out in the end of september. his first release illustrates a mixture of breaking beats, jungle vibes and detroit soul textures, coexisting in balance in all the tracks with a special broken beat reshape made by italian artist andrea (ilian tape), one of the most interesting newcomer of european techno scene. label artworks represent specific corners of the beautiful matera city, recently rewarded as european capital of culture 2019, and cradle of the label sound.

jonas friedlich, better known through mistress recordings and carl gari, releases his first solo 12- on molten moods. the versatile 4 track ep starts with the rather straight -bo s breakfast- that begins with a polyrhythmic 303 bass line leading into a catchy garage-ish chorus, kicking in out of a clear sky but fittingly. -bus driver- is a wicked trip, the combination of the long acid build up and a nicely chopped vocal bit is irresistible. a proven, tested (and molten moods certified) club banger, regardless of its rather untypical breakbeat. track number 3 called -praise your name- aces groove through perfectly cut vocal samples and a fancy reference to 90s hip hop and drum n bass aesthetics. the next and last piece on the record is the eponymous -deskjet-, which is inspired by friedlichs conceptual sound art installations using printers. here rather restrained synthie lines are underpinned by a powerful kick and psychedelic tape delay noises. the 12- vinyl is handstamped on both sides. mastered and cut by scape mastering. artwork by paul bernhard.

italian producer dj octopus steps up for the sixth release on vinyl only imprint shall not fade, with his mechanical, percussion heavy ‘the internet’ ep. marco zanin aka dj octopus first came onto the scene in 2013 with a string of releases on respected imprints such as&#894,, hot haus, chiwax, hardmoon & love notes. since then his sound has evolved and progressed massively, now resulting in a distinctive brand of warm soulful, analogue heavy house music. the four track ep, features club friendly cuts best suited for a dark dancefloor.

nino delivers his first well-deserved solo ep on batti batti. originally from bosnia, but based in brussels (belgium), nino s tracks have always been a perfect representation of a purely deep underground sound. starting off with a soothing piece of ambience to set the mood , odysseia ep is aimed for club use and hence depicts ninos evolving style yet maintaining his secretive and atmospheric element as a common factor.

stockholm-based imprint swedish brandy productions serves up a sultry four track v/a 12 inch with deep and soulful gems. first out on the a side you get the track * legs lover*. equipped with yamaha rs-7000, moog rouge and roland juno 106, moscow based house and techno purist and producer harry light gives us an uncompromising old school deep house groover with crisp pounding beats, stuttering chords and distinct catchy hooks. harry light has previous releases on labels such as artreform, pro-tez and beef to name a few. the a side ends off with the post-disco sounding killer track “overland & sea” by london based producer and dj dan westlake aka westlake72. dan’s sound borrows liberally from the history of club and dance music, mixing and matching eras to create his own contemporary sonic palette, sighting the early and mid 80 s new york post-disco producers such as darryl payne and paul simpson in particular as key influences. on the flip side soultechnic aka deejaykul delivers the deep and classy track “addicted”. rául navarette, the man behind both aliases, has been holding it down since the late 80 s, releasing music on labels like atjazz record company, z records, peng, del, basic fingers and xtrasolar records, and remixing great artists like opolopo, the rurals, gregory del piero, kenny bobien, monday michiru, monodeluxe, diviniti and many more.

what happens when one of the most exciting electronic music projects of the last fifteen years meets the pioneer of cosmic disco? the result is stunning and with no doubt one of the most interesting things we have heard in a while. psycho radio was born in 2002 from an idea of the italian producer daniele tignino and sound engineer pat legato, with vocals from british singer leroy c anderson. they burst in the music scene with an innovative sound that took inspiration from the 80 s new wave, funk and electro grooves. tracks like in the undergroun and right stuff brought a breath of fresh air in those years, and they still sound very actual today. 2016 has seen the addition of producer da lukas to the project, with psycho radio now back with an explosive new single called bad reputation. once again with the captivating vocals by lc anderson. the legendary disco innovator daniele baldelli teams up once again with marco dionigi to bring us two stellar remixes that move from the funk infused vibe to their trademark cosmic balearic journey. an essential record for the final summer days.

ethimms second ep when in dark delivers the groups signature tension music with moods oscillating between suicidal heartbreak and conciliatory optimism. in the opening track why (a cover of the rhythm and sound classic), producer elisabeth thimm sets the stage for guest singer veronique to mourn love s loss, while brian gimmel s improvised piano licks hold strong agains the songs relentless bassline. the follow-up track late features lexx s dreamy lyrics gracing a subtle dance foor tune for spaced-out souls. the b side opens with ethimms love for dub. next is a freaked-out meditation on what has been and will be, while the fnal track done slowly creeps towards its peak, refecting on dark days where light may have not been much in sight, but going forward sees optimism, increased resolution, and drive.

reflections is the spectral sound debut of nautiluss, the primary project from torontos graham bertie. his career began, as many do, with practicing mixing records in his bedroom before cutting his teeth in warehouse raves in montreal. after many collaborations and heavy touring early in his career, bertie has chosen to stay in more than go out, leading to a new direction in his music. dont let this lead you to believe hes a slouch in the live department.

the third release on pooledmusics techno-focused sister imprint montage welcomes back silvershower, revisiting the debut release of ian pooley’s techno alias on its 20th anniversary. the original ice fractions 1 ep arrived on plus 8 records when richie hawtin & john aquqavivas legendary label was at the height of its powers, and showcased a tougher edge to pooleys productions. two decades later pooley is still maintaining his high standards, revisiting and updating past work in the form of reissues & remixes and issuing fresh original material such as his recent turakina ep on pooledmusic and the return of silvershower last year. which marked montages launch this new edition of the first ice fractions 12inch supplies the two original lead tracks and an updated 2016 remix of each by pooley himself, satisfying both those aiming for the vintage 1996 techno sound, and those looking for a punchy update for modern techno cathedrals.

each of the four untitled tracks offers a different bassline groove paired with slowly unfurling cosmic sound design, featuring synthesizer leads that sound like an aural glimpse into the inner workings of your brain.

butterflies is lord tang s second full length release. it is a warm descent into a dub fueled frenzy of color and light. it is a sound dredged from the depths of jamaican dub and spun into a new form that incorporates the many influences on lord tang s creator, dominic cramp: soundtracks, library music, vintage science fiction, broken beats, dirty electronics, modular electronic music, abstract tone clouds.

for the second release on alex bradley’s utopia records we see the return of london based producer dominic jacobson aka ‘modaji’. dominic’s initial modaji and harvey lindo releases garnered acclaim from luminaries such as francois kevorkian, derrick may and gilles peterson and after 10 years away from releasing to concentrate on composing music for film and television, jacobson returns to the studio to delve further into his deep house and ambient soundscapes. the first of two ep’s, belle epoque touches on a more cinematic approach to production and showcases a warmer, more expanded sound. the aim is to create music that is as listenable during the dusky twilight hours as it is at sunrise. the rest we leave to your imagination and trust you will enjoy our offering. limited pressing!

the omnibus band was founded by jarda zajpt and petr dikan in 1979 in czechoslovakia. having met at the electronic high school, electronics was their field of expertise. over time, petr dikan constructed several sound devices such as the Šílený fridrich (Šf, crazy frederick) keyboard and the vsd (všude samý dráty/wires everywhere) generator which he operated during the recordings and also at concerts. at that time, heavily influenced by brian eno and robert fripp from the king crimson band, jarda zajpt played the guitars, using all kinds of effects, pre-recorded tapes, and one or more interconnected tape recorders. the first record, “israels”, was produced between 1980 and 1982. in 1985, jarda zajpt swapped a guitar for a keyboard and a new member arrived – pavel zvolenský – who programmed and played the automatic percussions. martin bauer, playing the bass guitar, completed the trio. they have produced a second album, “rhythmus”, in this assembly. remastered from unreleased tape recordings. this is the first release in the framework of the project jupiter 08 – archeology of the slavic electronic sound.
